With about 1.5 billion RFID-based chips sold to date, the company’s Identification business is the world’s leader in the design and manufacturing of contactless chips used in smart cards, smart labels and tags as well as in car access and immobilizer systems. NXP Semiconductors also co-developed the intuitive NFC technology and is actively driving the market development. The company has been in RFID since 1988 and has a historical strategy to drive the technology and solutions expertise with a shared vision with key industry partners across the value chain. The company’s most comprehensive portfolio includes chips for smart labels and RFID products, contact, contactless and dual interface smart card ICs and ICs for readers and reader components.

NXP’s contactless technology is used across a diverse set of applications – such as supply chain management and logistics functions, including pharmaceutical and livestock tracking, as well as in various transportation, payment and eGovernment applications – to provide consumers with greater convenience and safety. The company offers its RFID technology as an open platform and is an active promoter of global standards to build the foundation for widespread adoption (EPC, ISO).

NXP’s global competence center for contactless identification technologies is based in Gratkorn/Austria.
